The Jackal is a "highly capable IFV that offers enhanced lethality, survivability, and tactical flexibility," according to Europe’s Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation.
"Developments in sensor technology, data analytics, and machine learning have all significantly contributed to this innovation, allowing vessels to operate either fully autonomously or remote controlled by operators in a portable operations centre," said the UK MoD.
India’s interest in Eurodrone builds off a joint statement signed with Germany in October 2024 to deepen defense cooperation and which includes a “specific focus on technology collaboration, manufacturing/co-production and co-development of defence platforms and equipment.”
A total budget of €87 million ($92 million) has been allocated for the project’s first phase, split between €60 ($63 million) in European Commission (EC) grants and €27 million ($28 million) from member states Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, Greece and Norway.
Artec will expand Boxer assembly lines to five facilities across Europe this year, offering production capacity of 200 vehicles per year, but such a target remains dependent on whether suppliers “can keep the pace” of industrial planning, according to an company official.
